One of the most exciting areas in Sheffield, Kelham Island is fast becoming a sought after area for students and professionals alike.
A great spot for Students of the University of Sheffield and being just a short walk into the City Centre, Hallam students can also enjoy the buzz of Sheffield’s very own little island.
As one of Sheffield's oldest manufacturing sites, Kelham Island has seen some significant developments since the days of the industrial revolution. What was once steel and cutlery factories and workshops are now home to breweries, bars, restaurants, galleries and indie shopping arcades.
The area is packed to the brim with quirky independent places to eat and drink, and is dubbed the real ale hot spot of the city. As well as attracting real ale enthusiasts the area has some more unusual places to eat and drink including Krynkl, a development made from shipping containers and topped with a rooftop bar.
Accommodation in Kelham Island is mostly limited to apartments; however you may be lucky to stumble across a student house or two! If you're looking for an area that’s packed with history, but is leading Sheffield’s social scene then Kelham Island is the spot.
