Swansea student housing market: everything you need to know
How much does student accommodation in Swansea cost?

When does the Swansea student property season run from and to?
Don’t want to leave house hunting until the last minute? Just jump on the UniHomes website in October to sort out somewhere for next year in no time. This is when most people start searching for student lettings in Swansea, but demand peaks in November and most students have found their new digs by March. Student housing gets a little harder to come by after this point, so as long as you’re on the ball between October and March then you’ll be able to secure the perfect place for you and all your housemates.
Which areas of Swansea are most popular with students?
With easy access to nature and its tight-knit community feel, it’s not hard to figure out why Brynmill is the most popular area for those looking for Swansea student accommodation. Brynmill is surrounded on two sides by Singleton and Brynmill Parks, with the southern boundary also facing out onto the stunning Swansea Bay, making those walks to seminars all the more scenic and picturesque. This part of Swansea is especially a great choice for students who frequent the Singleton Campus at Swansea Uni, as the two are practically next door to one another – rolling out of bed for those 9am lectures doesn’t seem so bad when uni’s only a ten-minute walk away.
After somewhere that offers lively pubs and eclectic independent shops? Try the suburbs in Uplands, the next most popular area for student housing in Swansea. Dotted with live-music venues, bars, and restaurants, Uplands is a great place to live if you like surrounding yourself with good vibes and even better food. With Swansea Uni just 23 mins away by foot and University of Wales Trinity St David a 23-minute bus ride away (on the no. 91), Uplands is not only up-and-coming but accessible, too.
The City Centre also proves to be a big hit with those looking for student properties in Swansea. As the beating heart of Swansea, the City Centre boasts nightclubs and bars like Sin City and Bambu as well as ample shopping opportunities on High Street and Oxford Street, and sits exactly between the two Swansea Uni campuses. If you're after somewhere central for student houses in Swansea, the City Centre is definitely the way to go
Which house sizes are most in demand with Swansea students?
With the most popular student lettings in Swansea for 2025-26 being 4-, 5- and 6-bedroom houses, it’s clear that life in this Welsh city is all about surrounding yourself with your friends. Naturally, properties of these sizes go quickly, so start looking early if you are thinking about sharing somewhere with a few of your mates.
Student life in Swansea
Famed for the surrounding area’s outstanding natural beauty, Swansea is nestled between some gorgeous parts of nature that offer ample opportunities for budding and adventurists and natural-born thrill seekers. Bannau Brycheiniog (the Brecon Beacons) is less than 1h 30m away by car, meaning that cave exploring, rock climbing and abseiling are all right at your fingertips.
Fancy something a little closer to home? Head a little further down the Gower Peninsula to spots like Langland bay to try your hand at surfing. Don’t worry if you’re not the outdoorsy type though – Swansea University boasts a Wii Sports society (it’s free to join, btw), so if you prefer to do your sports virtually then you’re in luck.
If you’d rather spend your evenings in a bar or a pub, Swansea is still a great place to be. Sin City in the City Centre definitely makes for a memorable night out, thanks to its themed club nights and free event packages – seriously, Sin City doesn’t mess around when it comes to hosting societies, with the venue offering free entry and queue jumping for those out on a soc social. Every now and then Sin City even hosts headliners like Ed Sheeran and Stormzy, so keep your eyes peeled for more exciting acts if live music is your thing.

Did you know?
Swansea University students might be surprised to learn they share a campus with an ancient Egyptian coffin dating from 650BC (and you thought PhD students were old). Fortunately, there's no mummy inside it – and it was even used as a storage box at one point before it was restored by Swansea students last year.
