Student Areas in Pontypridd

Student Accommodation in Pontypridd

Nestled in the valleys of the Rhondda Cynon Taf just north of Cardiff, Pontrypridd is a historic Welsh town with a growing student population. The University of South Wales can be found here, with its two main campuses - Treforest and Glyntaff - just off the town centre. Pontypridd is a beautiful place to live, surrounded by lush green countryside and picturesque satellite villages, perfect for students who love the outdoors or just getting off the grid. For the party animals out there, Cardiff is less than half an hour's train away and boasts some of the best nightlife in the UK.

Being a small town with a compact town centre, you'll be in walking distance of Uni and everything else regardless of which part of Pontypridd you choose to live in. For shortest walks to campus, have a look around the Treforest area on the south side of the town. There's also usually some housing available in Hawthorn, further down the main road, or up in Coed-pen-maen on the north side.

Being a Student in Pontypridd

Every street in Pontypridd is within walking distance of Pontypridd's shops, bars, attractions and train station. All the basics are within a 10 minute walk of each other! For a quick drink in the town centre, The Tumble Inn Wetherspoons is a student favourite, but Clwb Y Bont and No. 12 Cocktail Bar are also popular. Social butterflies who are after a big night out often take the 25-min train ride to Cardiff, where you'll find fantastic clubs like PRYZM and Metros. Cardiff also features fantastic food places like Wiwo and the Irie Shack, as well as all your big brand favourites. Sports fans are also well-served in Cardiff, which hosts massive events like the Rugby World Cup and even Champions League Finals.

Heading into the countryside is a favourite pastime of many Pontypridd students. You can find animals living on farms if you walk up almost any hill in the city. Eglwysilan Mountain is full of trails with incredible views, but for even more adventure you can catch a bus up to the Brecon Beacons. The countryside view from the Brecons is particularly great for artists and photographers.

Pontypridd's own streets have lots of quirky things to discover. Hoffi Coffee is a very well-regarded coffee stop, and many students enjoy visiting Barinis for a grill. The museum of Pontypridd is great if you want to find out about the area's history. For a bit of shopping, make sure you check out Market Street for both independent and big-brand stores (not to mention the Pontypridd Market).

University of South Wales Accommodation

Students attending the University of South Wales usually grab themselves a place near the banks of the River Taff, around Treforest, Rhydfelin and Hawthorn. These areas surround the two UoSW campuses in Pontypridd, so you'll only be a matter of minutes away from your seminars on foot.
