Fratton is one of the most popular student areas in Portsmouth, packed full of amenities, popular bars and restaurants. Home to a few green spaces, it’s brilliant in the summer months with plenty of walking options. Taking a short 20-minute bus ride to get to the main university campus, and having its own train station, Fratton is great for getting in and around the city.

For those who fancy something a bit further away from the action, try Milton. The area is a 30-minute bus ride from the city centre, and borders Milton Lake - perfect for those who enjoy long walks. Milton is also ideal for sports students, with the university's Langstone Sports Site located in the area.

Towards the south of the city you'll find Southsea and Eastney. Southsea is incredibly popular amongst students, mainly due to its brilliant atmosphere and close proximity to the city centre. Filled with independent cafes and restaurants, the Southsea Common park also transforms into a venue for local events. Slightly further afield is Eastney, which is slightly quieter but still close enough to the city centre not to miss out on Portsmouth's excellent nightlife.

If you want a cheaper rent, Buckland is a brilliant option for students. The area is a slightly quieter district when it comes to nightlife, but it's an affordable location within walking distance to the city centre.
