Student Accommodation at Teesside University

About Middlesbrough

When it opened its doors in 1930, Teesside University immediately began attracting would-be engineers from across the country. To this day, the institution holds a reputation for world-class research and academic excellence in the fields of engineering, metallurgy and chemistry. In turn, it has consistently ranked high for quality of education in the Complete University Guide, coming 15th of 63 in 2021.

Located in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire, the university is an open engineering uni affiliated with the University Alliance. In 1992, it gained official university status, and the degree courses it offers were recognised by the University of London.

Currently, over 21,000 students come from around the world to take advantage of the teaching standards and expertise delivered by the respective departments on campus. Not only that, but according to a leading global survey, international students at Teesside University have one of the best learning experiences in the UK. When asked about the level of support on offer as part of the International Student Barometer 2020, respondents had an average satisfaction rate of 95.8%.

Named the University of the Year for Social Inclusion by The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022, this institution has become a vibrant and progressive university that puts students at the heart of everything it does.

Whatever you choose to study, you’ll be given opportunities to connect with local employers and gain valuable experience prior to graduation. Should you have any issues with your course, the campus, your health or your finances, Teesside University’s support staff will always be on hand to offer practical advice and connect you with the right resources.

Being a Student in Middlesbrough

Teesside University may have earned a reputation for teaching excellence and career-focused courses, but we all know there’s more to university life than studying – and this campus fully lives up to expectations. It has excellent locations close by with student housing in great locations - just a few minutes walk to the nearest restaurant or pub.

Teesside’s main campus can be found in the centre of Middlesbrough town, on Southfield Road. This prime location means students coming from further afield can truly get to know the town in their down-time and take advantage of the wealth of amenities on offer. Nevertheless, the campus itself has a lot going for it. In recent years, Teesside has been the target of huge investments aimed at creating a peaceful and progressive learning environment.

The result is a vibrant campus, home to an impressive library and an energetic student union, serving a whole array of food, drinks and music as well as a popular outdoor seating area. For those budding fitness fanatics, Teesside Sport will certainly cater to your needs. With top-quality gym facilities, exercise labs, a floodlit 3G pitch, squash courts, climbing walls and much more, you’ll have plenty of choice when it comes to keeping active.

Teesside University Students' Union has over 100 clubs and societies, including tabletop gaming, TV, film and animation, graphic design, history, League of Legends and life sciences.
