Finding accommodation near Coventry University
As a post-92 university, Coventry University used to go by various names since its establishment as an educational institution in the mid-1800s. Now it welcomes almost 30,000 students to the city and is the fastest growing university in the UK.
Coventry university cites strengths in teaching and research across a variety of fields, from Architecture to Film Production, but the real stand out point is their specialist Automotive Engineering programme. Built on Coventry’s historic connection to the British automotive industry, the course is highly specialised and one of only a few available in the UK.
The 33-acre Coventry University campus is located within the main city centre ring road, placing it in close proximity to rail links and bus routes around the city and beyond. Spread across a multitude of buildings, key features include the engineering building, boasting its own wind-tunnel and flight-simulator, and William Morris building, named after the Morris Motors founder and creator of the icon Morris Minor and original Mini.
Students seeking city centre accommodation away from the world of on-site and private student halls have plenty of choice. A variety of one- and two-bedroom student flats are spread across the city centre at a range of rents suitable to all student budgets. Looking slightly wider afield you’ll start to find student houses for three or four sharing across areas like X and Y, which are close enough to the campus to walk in but cost much less than city centre living!
Outside of the city centre and main ring road, students are spoilt for choice with residential areas at every corner of Coventry. To the north areas like Lower Coundon and Bishopsgate Green are popular, providing terraced suburban streets for a more relaxed living situation than in the city. Alongside 3-bedroom terraces, you’ll find a few larger semi-detached properties which are great for larger groups, with some special developments accommodating between 6-bedrooms and 10-bedrooms.
To the west, Spon End and Earlsdon are a little further away but still provide regular bus routes into the city centre and the Coventry University campus. If you’re after an area with a few more outdoor spaces, nearby Chapelfields is a great option, popular with families and more outdoorsy students. Across these areas you’ll find a mix of apartments and 3-bedroom and 4-bedroom properties.
