Being a Student in Hull

In recent years, Hull has risen up to become one of the UK’s favourite hotspots for students and young professionals, and it’s easy to see why. Situated on the docks of the Humber, the city centre is buzzing with things to do. Whether it’s a gig at the brand new concert venue, a shopping spree at the Prospect Shopping Centre or a trip to see the sharks at the famous submarium, The Deep, you'll never be stuck for activities. If that isn't enough, the city is home to two top-flight rugby teams and the Hull City Tigers Football Club.

When the day draws to a close, students have a wide selection of bars and clubs to choose from to blow off steam. In the centre, you’ll find the perfect balance of traditional pubs like the Lion and Key and the White Harte and more modern establishments like the Brain Jar and Head of Steam, where you can start your craft beer adventure or grab a cocktail to kick off the evening. If you like a bit more pizzazz, try Humber Street Distillery and sample one, two or five of the 100 gins on offer.

The best pubs aren’t reserved to the city centre. Right by the university campus near the Avenues, you’ll find a buzzing nightlife with plenty of student bars like Pave and the Boardroom, where you can gather your friends and challenge them to a board game or two.

Looking for a bite to eat? Treat yourself to some exceptional flavours at Thai House or Marrakech. During the summer months, stroll down to the marina and soak up the sun while sampling some of the city’s most sought after cooking at Ambiente or Tapasya. For veggie options, we couldn’t recommend Hitchcock’s in the Old Town enough!

The university campus is packed with sports facilities, including a £3.5 million football hub and a 12-court sports hall. In town, you’ll find plenty of running tracks and green spaces to get active while taking in expansive views of the city and the river it sits on.
