One of the main thoroughfares in and out of Hull, Beverley Road is the runner up in terms of popular student areas in Hull. The Deep makes for a genuinely amazing day out, even if you think you’re too old to obsess over penguins and sharks, and even a much-appreciated student discount for uni goers.

Hull Fair is also an unmissable attraction; this annual event occurs for two weeks every October and is East Yorkshire’s crowning jewel. Think thrilling fairground rides like rollercoasters and waltzers, as well as novelty stalls such as hook-a-duck and food vendors that sell doughnuts, candy floss, and brandy snaps. Thousands flock to central Hull every year for the fair, including the hoards of University of Hull students who make their way down from Newland Ave over to Spring Bank and Anlaby Road for the event.

Hull sometimes seems like it’s a world of its own, a vibe that’s bolstered by unconventional street names like the Land of Green Ginger. This cobbled lane lies at the beginning of Hull’s Old Town, just off Whitefriargate, and claims to be home to the world’s smallest window (a story for another time).

It’s reportedly been called this for at least 200 years, but no one really seems to know just exactly how this street ended up being named the Land of Green Ginger.
