Student Accommodation in Hull

Named the UK City of Culture in 2017, Hull continues to attract students from throughout the UK and beyond. Home to an esteemed university which is world-renowned for ground-breaking research, Hull is a multi-cultural hub that's booming with art, music, sport and entertainment. Cosmopolitan culture and sea-faring heritage meet in Hull to create a city that's as equally charming as it is exciting.

Student accommodation in Hull comes in many shapes, sizes and locations, and your pick will depend on your preferences. Perhaps you like the idea of living in the heart of the city centre, where you’ll be surrounded by an abundance of cafés, bars and shops. Maybe you’re looking for somewhere close to campus like the Avenues or Newland, where you’ll be just a short bus ride from the University of Hull for early morning lectures and an equally short distance from the centre for those memorable nights out.

Situated to the east of the city centre is Southcoates, a vibrant neighbourhood brimming with exciting places to eat and drink. Student accommodation in Southcoates is always in demand due to its prime location, spacious housing and diverse collection of independent shops. A little further afield is Beverley Road, a charming community featuring a range of affordable properties perfect for students who want a blend of city and country.

Being a Student in Hull

In recent years, Hull has risen up to become one of the UK’s favourite hotspots for students and young professionals, and it’s easy to see why. Situated on the docks of the Humber, the city centre is buzzing with things to do. Whether it’s a gig at the brand new concert venue, a shopping spree at the Prospect Shopping Centre or a trip to see the sharks at the famous submarium, The Deep, you'll never be stuck for activities. If that isn't enough, the city is home to two top-flight rugby teams and the Hull City Tigers Football Club.

When the day draws to a close, students have a wide selection of bars and clubs to choose from to blow off steam. In the centre, you’ll find the perfect balance of traditional pubs like the Lion and Key and the White Harte and more modern establishments like the Brain Jar and Head of Steam, where you can start your craft beer adventure or grab a cocktail to kick off the evening. If you like a bit more pizzazz, try Humber Street Distillery and sample one, two or five of the 100 gins on offer.

The best pubs aren’t reserved to the city centre. Right by the university campus near the Avenues, you’ll find a buzzing nightlife with plenty of student bars like Pave and the Boardroom, where you can gather your friends and challenge them to a board game or two.

Looking for a bite to eat? Treat yourself to some exceptional flavours at Thai House or Marrakech. During the summer months, stroll down to the marina and soak up the sun while sampling some of the city’s most sought after cooking at Ambiente or Tapasya. For veggie options, we couldn’t recommend Hitchcock’s in the Old Town enough!

The university campus is packed with sports facilities, including a £3.5 million football hub and a 12-court sports hall. In town, you’ll find plenty of running tracks and green spaces to get active while taking in expansive views of the city and the river it sits on.

When it comes to student housing in Hull, rest assured there's a broad selection of properties to suit all preferences. From the renovated Edwardian and Victorian properties on the tree-lined streets of the Avenues to early 20th century properties around Newland, there are plenty of spacious and stylish homes that are within walking distance of campus.

Students also favour accommodation in Kingswood, where they benefit from a myriad of local amenities right on their doorstep. Plus, the area is within close proximity to the Kingswood Retail Park. Naturally, some of the most in-demand properties can be found on the Humber waterfront, whether in Southcoates or the city centre itself. The urban buzz of this area is undeniably a pull, as are the modern apartments, chic boutique shops and independent cafés.
