Next Stop: Uni by UniHomes
Decorating your uni room is definitely an underrated part of Freshers’ Week. From giving you an opportunity to chill out in between all of those late nights out, to helping make your new space feel a bit more like you, decorating is a fun rite of passage for students all over the country. But it can be hard to know where to get started, which is why we’ve put together this guide on the best tips, inspo, and student discounts for room decor out there.
Reuse and recycle 🏠
The ultimate cheap hack: using what you’ve got at home. If there’s a lamp, poster, or cute bedding set already laying around in your bedroom at home, why not bring it along to uni? You’ll save money and get an aesthetic vibe going in your student halls all at the same time.
Go second-hand 🛍️
If you’re lucky enough to be in a uni city with a thriving thrifting scene (hello York, Norwich, and Manchester), go explore your local charity shops and see what trinkets and treasures you can find to decorate your room. Not only does this prevent items from going to landfill, it’s also a great way to decorate your bedroom with unique bits and pieces that nobody else owns.
Do it yourself 🔨
Seen some cute room decor on TikTok or Pinterest that you wish you could steal for your own bedroom? Give it a go instead! There are so many ways to get creative when it comes to room decor – from garland making to creating a cute room sign – and they’re all great bonding activities that you can do with your new housemates, too.
Embrace your green thumb 🪴
Plants are an easy way to introduce some life into your uni room, with some houseplants being easier for students to look after than others. If you fancy yourself as someone with a green thumb, pick up a nice plant pot (or several) and get to grips with bringing a bit of nature into your halls.
Houseplants are even better when they're free – look out for the UniHomes team and our houseplant prize draws at a Freshers' Fair near you.
Scope out the student fairs 🌟
Whether you’re after some cool new posters or a houseplant or two for your student accommodation, you’ll probably be able to find something on campus. Freshers’ Fairs often involve things like poster sales, so it’s definitely worth heading out and having a look.
