As lockdown slowly eases and we return to the tier system, it's a great opportunity to visit some of the great outdoor food and drink spots for students across the UK! 🍻
After a month of takeaways, now is the time to support the local businesses that make the student experience so memorable. We’ve compiled a list of our favourite eateries and bars with an awesome outdoor space, so you can get to planning your first post-lockdown meet-up. Check out the list below for our faves👇
Water Lane Boathouse, Leeds
Perfect for date night, or just for a little slice of luxury, Water Lane Boathouse is an idyllic waterfront bar that has an incredible beer garden. Breezy in the summer months and cosy in the winter, the Water Lane Boathouse has some of the best pizza, beers and burgers that Leeds has to offer. Top tip: every Friday, the Water Lane Boathouse transforms into the perfect pre-drinks spot serving Pizza and Bottomless Prosecco for £25 between 4-6pm!
The Hobbit, Southampton
Anyone who lives in Southampton has to stop by the Hobbit at least once. The Hobbit has a Lord of The Rings-themed cocktail menu (perfect for messy nights out), bundles of character, and an impressive outdoor space too. If it gets too cold outside, worry not - there’s loads of space inside too. Blow the horn of Gondor and rally your troops for a post-lockdown pint.
Flat Iron Square, London
Easily one of the hippest spots in the whole of London, Flat Iron Square has everything you could want from an outdoor drinking/eating space. Located in London Bridge, just off Union Street, Flat Iron Square offers pop up kitchens serving delicious food, fairy lights to brighten up the darkest days and an outdoor space that boasts aprés ski-chic. Perfect for a romantic date or for a big group session, this is one night out that you don’t want to miss out on.
Terrace NQ, Manchester
Terrace NQ in Manchester is synonymous with student culture and unforgettable nights out. Throughout the year, Terrace NQ has offered incredible outdoor drinking & eating spaces, and this winter will be no different.
With super friendly and knowledgeable staff, an unbelievable roof terrace and some of the best beers the city has to offer, it's no wonder that Terrace NQ is one of the most popular spots in Manchester.
Bohemia, Brighton
Located close to Brighton Pier, Bohemia is an award-winning Grand Café and Late Lounge with an exterior seating space that’s equally as beautiful as its interior. Bohemia boasts a cocktail menu to rival even the swankiest spots in London, and their food is mouth-wateringly good. For a city famed for its Fish and Chips, Bohemia is renowned for their offering, and we think it may be the very best in all of Brighton!
Kafeneon, Newcastle
Missing the holiday sun? Not stepped foot on a plane this year? Kafeneon is the cure to your wanderlust blues. Kafeneon is a Greek Kitchen with killer cocktails that has proudly served the city of Newcastle since 1998.
Complete with a very European café culture, Kafeneon has an awesome outdoor space, ideal for watching the world go by while you slurp your drink and sample the delicious mediterranean menu on offer.
The Canal House, Nottingham
Located just a stone's throw away from the city centre, the Canal House in Nottingham has the food, drinks and atmosphere that dreams are made of. During summer months, this hotspot is the perfect place to kick back, relax and soak up the good vibes alongside the canal.
In the winter, the Canal House converts into a hygge wonderland, resembling something more commonly seen amongst the snowy tundra of Bavaria. Grab some mates, drink some beers, munch some bratwurst. Sorted.
Bambalan, Bristol
Bambalan is the ultimate student hangout with a view. Smack bang in Bristol city centre, Bambalan’s famous terrace boasts views of the historic harbour, and is home to some of the best resident DJs the city has to offer.
Bambalan also offers an extensive menu full of quick bites, sharing platters and mouth-wateringly good main meals. Come for the 2-4-1 cocktails and stay for a game of foosball or table tennis - then boogie the night away on the dance floor until the early hours.
Bamboo Door, Sheffield
Transport yourself to a more summery climate by visiting Sheffield’s favourite Tiki Bar, Bamboo Door. Located right in the heart of the city centre, Bamboo Door is a guaranteed quality night out. The decor inside is as beachfront as you would expect, and the outdoor terrace is packed with ambience.
The staff at Bamboo Door are welcoming and certainly know how to manage a bar, keeping queues to a minimum throughout the night. We recommend getting a seat early and taking advantage of the £6 cocktails available during happy hour.
The Cork, Bath
The Cork is a hotbed of student culture in Bath. This pub/restaurant is super easy to get to, has tons of outdoor seating and holds themed nights most days of the week. The Cork is also one of the very best places to watch sports in all of the city, with wall to floor screens inside, and telly's outside, you’ll never miss a moment of the action. Feeling a bit peckish? Make sure to try the Cork Nachos - they are some of the best you’ll find in the country!
