Through our dedicated research, we’ve rounded up the best student nights out in Leicester so you can confidently hit the streets knowing that you’ll have a great time. -

The Fan Club

If the sound of modern music makes you ask questions like, “Who is this?” and “Whatever happened to Robbie Williams?” then The Fan Club  on Abbey Street is the place for you. This huge nightclub has three dance floors and five bars, and specialises in 60s, 80s and 90s themed nights (we don’t know what they’ve got against the 70s either…). It opens at 10:30pm on Saturday night and doesn’t shut until 4am, giving you plenty of time to belt out all the hits from the likes of Abba, Cher, Take That and whoever else your parents used to listen to. Entry and drinks are both cheap, which gives you no excuse, really.

Soar Point

Soar Point’s website claims it’s the ‘best craft pub serving food in Leicester,’ and who are we to disagree? This is the ideal spot for a casual afternoon/ evening combo, great for a quick drink or two, lunch, dinner, and even a spot of pool and foosball. But the biggest Soar Point selling point of all, in our humble opinion, is their 40p wings. Choose between chicken and cauliflower, and enjoy hot honey buffalo sauce, BBQ, Korean and Inferno hot sauce for just 40p a wing. We’ll see you there.

MOSH

A club that does exactly what it says on the tin, MOSH is a great place for fans of indie and pop-punk. If you’ve ever belted out the words, ‘When I was… a young boy… my father…’ or you’ve done those three claps in THAT Enter Shikari song, then look no further. This three-floored student favourite will leave you with a night full of memories to remember, and you’ll be happy about it. Drinks are cheap and there are always deals on, so stick some skinny jeans on and get your eyeliner out - it wasn't just a phase, Mum.

Firebug

They serve a shot at Firebug called A&E. We’ll say no more. It’s only a quick stroll from the DMU campus, making it the perfect place to treat yourself after a day of thinking. A mix of restaurant, bar and music venue, Firebug also does movie nights and quizzes, all backed up by a great range of craft beers and cocktails. You pretty much have to walk down Millstone Lane as you leave uni, so it’d be rude not to pop in.

2Funky Complex

2Funky is a little bit of everything good. Three venues each offer something different: 2Funky Lounge is the club, 2Funky Cafe is a more laid-back bar, and 2Funky Street Kitchen is, you guessed it, a street kitchen. Whether you want a glow-stick fueled rave, a dance to some throwback anthems or a taste of excellent food from across the globe, 2Funky has the thing you’re after. They also do great student deals, so keep your eyes peeled.

The Queen of Bradgate

Not everyone at uni enjoys the bmph bmph bpmh of a club night, and we get that. Some might prefer a cosy pub with gorgeous original features and a fine selection of ever-changing craft ales, and for that, look no further than The Queen of Bradgate. This is the kind of pub you could take an older relative to and feel no shame, although the ping pong tables might not be their first priority. There’s also a great menu of freshly cooked pub food - sign us up.

The Shed

The Shed has been providing Leicester with live music since 1994, but in 2017 it was fully refurbed to add a cafe and a bar, and now hosts music, club nights and comedy. Seriously, it’s so much better than the shed in your parent's garden. There are two bars here - the upstairs bar is where you’ll find all the dancing and singing, the Vault Bar downstairs is where you can sit, drink and enjoy some enlightening conversation.

Club Helsinki

Drag nights, a neon dance floor and massive hits until 5am on a Saturday - Club Helsinki is the most happening gay bar in the city. Based on Rutland St, there are regular student deals here that make it a very cheap night: with free entry and £2.50 drinks, you can’t go wrong. Check out their Facebook page for all the upcoming fun.
