About the author: Hi! My name is Kayleigh Graves and I am a Journalism and Creative Writing student at the University of Leicester. I spend most of my time out running, watching women’s football, trying to plan my next concert without breaking the bank and questioning how I will make it through my ever-growing tower of books.

Clarendon Park is a well-loved and student packed neighbourhood that’s just a short walk from the University of Leicester. With its welcoming community and everything you need right on your doorstep, there is no shock it is a popular spot.

Whether you're hunting for your next student home and looking to see what's on offer, or just looking for somewhere new to explore, this guide will provide you with everything you need to know about Leicester’s Clarendon Park.

Location

Located just a 10-15 minute walk from the University of Leicester’s main campus, Clarendon Park ticks all the boxes when it comes to convenience, instantly making it a prime attraction for students.

Even if you're studying further away at De Montfort University, don’t fret. Clarendon Park is easily accessible thanks to regular buses, cycling routes and well-connected pathways, meaning getting around is easy.

Amenities

In the heart of the area is Queens Road, Clarendon Park’s very own high street. Lined with everything from familiar chains to quirky independents, it has all the essentials plus many hidden gems which give the area its unique charm.

Whether you need a late night takeaway, a trip to the pharmacy or a haircut, everything you need is right there. And for when deadlines hit, the endless cafés dotted along the stretch means there is always a spot for studying or picking up a quick drink.

A real highlight of the area are the annual summer and Christmas fairs, when Queens Road transforms into a lively street market packed with local vendors, tasty food, live music and full of community spirit.

Food and drink

Clarendon Park is packed with places to eat, drink and chill with plenty of options no matter your mood or budget.

A standout favourite is The Tiny Bakery. They offer incredible pastries and coffee, so do not be shocked to see a long queue on the weekends. Get there early and try the chocolate twist (even better if you warm it up) and head back at Easter for the incredible Mini Egg blondie!

The Northern Cobbler is another great spot offering delicious brunch pieces, particularly their bagels, and specially roasted coffee. If coffee doesn’t suit your fancy or the sun is shining, Grounded Kitchen offers delicious food and drinks; their acai bowl-style smoothies are perfect for taking over to Victoria Park or campus for a walk.

For something savoury, Halcyon Kitchen does huge pizzas in the evenings and offers a student discount, making them taste even better.

Nightlife

Clarendon Park is certainly not Leicester’s party hotspot, but it is hardly short from a good spot for a pint or cocktail.

The Clarendon, or ‘The Clarry’ as it is known to its regulars, is arguably the fan favourite amongst those living in the area. The pub offers screenings of sports events, regular live music, monthly quiz nights and a great selection of drinks.

Another hit amongst locals is Bar Dos Hermanos which offer gorgeous cocktails, perfect for sharing over some of their delicious tapas.

Clarendon Park is home to some amazing spots perfect for a drink and a chat, but you’re never far from the action in town for later on in the night.

Student housing

If you are hunting for your next student house in Leicester, chances are Clarendon Park is already on your radar and for good reason. It is easy to see why students love it: the location is ideal, the vibe is friendly and there’s a great mix of housing options.

During the 25/26 letting season it was the most searched area on UniHomes, with three times as many searches as the next most popular area (the city centre). Whether you are after a cosy 2-bed flat or a house big enough for everyone in the group chat, there’s something suitable for everyone. The average rent sits around £121.19 per person, per week, with properties ranging from £85 to £300 PPPW, meaning there’s a high chance of finding something that works perfectly for you.

There is way more to Clarendon Park than we can fit in one guide, so grab a coffee, take a walk down Queens Road and see what makes this student loved neighbourhood feel so special.
