The Southampton housing market: trends explained
Portswood and Highfield's consistent popularity are explained by them both being just a stone’s throw away from the University of Southampton (in fact, Highfield is actually home to Soton’s main campus itself!), making them the most ideal bases. They both have their own unique qualities too, with nearby Portswood Road providing both areas with an array of easily-accessible cafés, restaurants and pubs—everything a student needs, really!
The Polygon is also highly popular with students. Just to the north of the City Centre, the Polygon has excellent transport links and is only a hop, skip and a jump from Southampton Solent University. Living in Polygon also means you’re only ever a short distance away from a wide variety of restaurants and bars, so you’ll always have something to do in the evening.
Southampton's city centre is perfect for those who love the hustle and bustle of busy city living. The area is packed full of pubs, clubs, bars and restaurants, and there's plenty of opportunity to go out partying. At night, the high street well and truly comes alive!
Two other well-known areas for student accommodation in Southampton are Bassett and Shirley. Both are great locations for medical students studying at the Southampton General Hospital, or for those taking advantage of one of the many sporting facilities that form part of the University of Southampton.
Did you know?
Going for a night out in Southampton? You’re in good hands, as Southampton has consistently been declared a ‘Purple Flag’ city over the last three years for its exciting and safe nightlife - officially making it one of the best places in the country to let your hair down and have fun.
