How to Prepare for Resits and Reassessment Period

How to Prepare for Resits and Reassessment Period

Resitting an exam can be frustrating. What’s important is that you start preparation early and do everything you can to get the results you need.

The team at UniHomes have put together a few tips to help guide you through the reassessment period.

Start revision in advance

Some people would argue that it’s never too late to start revision. It’s also never too early to start either! The sooner you begin, the sooner you’ll feel confident in your ability to know the content and answer questions.

If you struggle with knowing how to revise, starting revision sooner will help you figure this out as you go along. Different modules require different skill sets and so revision might look different for each exam you resit - that’s okay!

Whether it’s active recall, mind maps, blurting, or pomodoro that works for you… use it! It’s also important to not compare yourself to the people around you who might be taking an entirely different approach. It’s your assessment and that means it’s about you!

Manage your time

Revision can seem daunting if you have no idea where to begin or how long to spend on what you’re revising.

Figuring out a timetable or writing a list of topics that need priority in your revision is a good place to start. It’s understandable to feel overwhelmed with the workload, but if you mark out what you’re going to revise, when you’re going to revise it, how, and for how long, this feeling can begin to subside.

Learning to manage your time with revision is never a waste of time. Effectively organising your time will be recognised by employers and the skill will follow you through life!

Utilise academic support

If you’re within a University or College, there should be academic support in place to assist you with advice about resits and reassessment. This might be in the form of a skills hub that suggests different methods of revision, it might be an academic tutor who is there to listen to your worries, or it might be 1-1 support that can look through past work and suggest improvements.

Most institutions will have this support in place so it’s important that you make yourself aware of what’s on offer to you as a student.

Practice exam technique

If you’re resitting an exam, you can prepare by practising questions similar to what will be in the exam. It’s probably not going to be much fun, but when you eventually sit in the exam hall and face a difficult question, you’ll know the correct technique to answer it (but only if you’ve practised!).

This is one way to boost your confidence prior to an exam.

Socialise with friends

Although revision is important, so is having fun. Trapping yourself in a room or the library every day will only do so much when it comes to retaining information. It’s important to give yourself time to enjoy what’s around you and communicate with friends about how you’re feeling, or just what you’ve been up to lately.

A change of scenery, whether it’s in nature or in a cafe, will also be refreshing after a day of revision.

Take care of yourself

Last but certainly not least, you must look after yourself throughout revision and the reassessment period. Drinking plenty of water, having a balanced diet, and getting enough sleep will give you the energy you need to prepare.

If you’re stressed, tired, or overworking yourself, you won’t be able to retain the information in your exams. Taking care of yourself is at the core of preparing well and it’s something you can’t afford not to do.

How UniHomes can help

It’s important that the environment where you revise is right for you. At UniHomes, we take the stress away from looking for your next home as we provide student accommodation all across the UK. What’s better? They all include bills! From 1-bedroom apartments to 10 bedroom homes, we have something on offer for everyone.

If revising at the library isn’t your style, or you simply prefer to work at the dining table, you’re going to need a student house that accommodates that. With our wide range of properties, why not take a look at what we have to offer?

It’s harder to focus on revision when you still need to set up and manage multiple utilities for your household if you have bills to sort. With UniHomes, we handle your bills for you. All the properties on our site come with water, broadband, TV Licence and uncapped energy* as standard.

Because all of the bills are included in your monthly rent payments, you don’t have to worry about splitting household bills with your housemates, having awkward conversations about energy usage, or needing to set up utility accounts! Instead, you can spend your time focusing on your exams and getting the best grade possible.
