Every city has its student hotspots - the iconic streets which everyone immediately pinpoints in their housing search. They're the streets people picture when you say where you're studying, and often more competitive than other parts of the city, for good reason.

Having already identified the UK's most in-demand cities for student accommodation, we've zoomed in further on the map. We've analysed over 7 million property listing views on our platform to rank the UK's most sought-after student streets for the 2026-27 letting season - and crown the winner for each major student city.

Top 10 Student Streets Analysed

1. Crookesmoor Road, Sheffield

Retaining its crown as the UK's most in-demand student street, Crookesmoor Road's location at the heart of Crookesmoor offers close proximity to the University of Sheffield campus and beautiful green spaces in Crookes Valley Park, Weston Park and Ponderosa.

The street itself is mercifully flat by Sheffield standards - though it's a bit of a climb up Barber Road to get there from uni - and has a great mix of large HMOs for groups and flats for couples or single dwellers. There are plenty of supermarkets and pubs nearby, including Hallamshire House and Dam House, so it's not hard to see why it's so sought-after among Sheffield students.

The Steel City's other famous student street, Ecclesall Road, just misses out on the UK top 10, ranking in 11th.

2. Portswood Road, Southampton

Firmly cemented as Southampton's most popular student street, Portswood Road has climbed three places nationally since the 2025-26 letting season.

3. Rhymney Street, Cardiff

It won't surprise Cardiff students that it's a Cathays street which is their city's highest entrant on the list, but Rhymney Street has seen a huge rise in demand, overtaking nearby Cathays Terrace and rising 13 places from last year.

4. Ilkeston Road, Nottingham

Another huge riser, Ilkeston Road in Lenton wasn't even in the top 30 UK student streets last year but has flown up the rankings this year.

5. Wilmslow Road, Manchester

Fallowfield has long been Manchester's go-to student surburb and Wilmslow Road beats off stiff competition from its neighbour Furness Road to the city's most in-demand student street.

6. Cardigan Road, Leeds

Up from 10th last year, Cardigan Road in Hyde Park retains its place as Leeds' top student street from last year. 

7. Filton Avenue, Bristol

Found in Bristol's Horfield area, Filton Avenue has jumped 22 places from last year. That's no mean feat given Horfield itself isn't especially in-demand - it wasn't in the top four most-searched Bristol areas on UniHomes for 2026-27.

8. Derby Road, Nottingham

Nottingham is the only city with two entries in the top 10, and it's another Lenton street. A third Nottingham street, Mansfield Road in the city centre, just misses out on the top 10 after jumping an incredible 268 places from last year!

9. Osborne Road, Newcastle

Located in Jesmond, Osborne Road remains the most popular street in Newcastle but has dropped from 5th overall last year.

10. Coronation Avenue, Bath

This Oldfield Park street was second in the UK last year, but just squeaks into the top 10 this time.
