Maybe I’m biased, but Manchester has the best student nightlife in the UK. There’s something going on practically every night, and there really is a place for everyone. Whether you’re after cheap drinks, live music or just a boogie with your mates, you’ll never be short of options.

So, if you’re new to Manchester or simply fancy switching up your usual spots, here are some places you need to try.

Where to go on a night out in Manchester

The Blues Kitchen

If you want your night out to come with a side of live music, Blues Kitchen is a great place to start. Located in the city centre, it combines live blues, soul and R&B with a Southern-inspired food menu, making it a good option for everything from a casual drink to a full night out.

There are £6 margaritas on Tuesday and the full cocktail menu costs £6 each on Wednesdays. Entry is free too, so you can enjoy the vibes without eating into your night-out budget!

YES

Spread across four floors on Charles Street, YES is one of those places where you can easily lose track of time.

There’s a rooftop terrace, beer garden and cheap drinks, with something different going on throughout the week. From live gigs to DJ nights, the programme is always changing, so check what’s on before heading down.

If your group can never agree on what kind of night they want, YES is a pretty safe compromise and it’s free entry!

HAUS

Over in Fallowfield, HAUS is a handy option if you’re living around the student-heavy area and don’t fancy heading into the city centre.

It has a relaxed bar-and-restaurant feel, making it a great spot for a few drinks with your mates before the night properly begins.

256

For a classic student club night, 256 is the one. Expect a lively student crowd, pop bangers and a proper night-out atmosphere.

It might not be the fanciest club in Manchester, but that’s not really the point. Sometimes you just want a cheap, chaotic student night – and 256 delivers exactly that.

The Brewers

Situated on Canal Street in Manchester’s Gay Village (which is somewhere we discuss in our A to Z Guide to Manchester), The Brewers is a must-visit at some point during your time in Manchester.

Tuesday nights are particularly exciting, with a regular themed drag show bringing plenty of entertainment to the evening. And if you do go, head to the bottom floor – that’s where you’ll get the best atmosphere!

With pop anthems, throwback hits and retro music, it’s definitely one to add to your list.

The White Hotel

Finally, if underground music is more your thing, put The White Hotel on your radar. Located in Salford, it has an energetic alternative club culture.

It’s definitely more of a destination night than somewhere you casually wander into, so check the event programme and ticket prices beforehand. If you want to experience a completely different side of Manchester’s nightlife, it’s well worth keeping in mind.

The best part? You have options

One of the best things about being in Manchester is you don’t have to stick to one place. You can start with a cheap drink in Fallowfield, head into town for live music, and finish the night dancing somewhere completely different.

And this list is nowhere near extensive – we’d be here all day if I tried to name every good spot. I guarantee there’s something for everyone in Manchester, so my biggest piece of advice is to try somewhere new. You might just find your new favourite night out!

Plus, with the average cost of a pint in Manchester in 2026 being £4.73 and nightclub entry averaging out at around £4.34 (according to UniHomes' own research, as we discuss in this blog post here), nights out in Manchester are an affordable way to get to know your housemates, make new friends, and experience uni nightlife.
