There’s something fun for every ghoul
You don’t have to scare yourself silly to have fun this Halloween, although there are plenty of options for anyone who would like to (more on that later). This season brings a whole host of fun opportunities for anyone wanting to dress up and have a good time - so whether you’re looking for a fearsome film night, a deadly disco, or even an evening spent in an abandoned factory (being chased by actors with chainsaws), there’s something for you.
Best Halloween parties for students
What better way to spend Halloween than in fancy dress dancing with a bunch of strangers who you’ll never recognise again because they were also in fancy dress? There are some huge Halloween parties happening this year for those on thrive on outfits.
If you’re studying in Sheffield, head to the iconic Leadmill for a whole host of events running throughout late October. There’s a Halloween silent disco (tickets £7), an old-school-themed rave (£23), and even a special Slipknot night (£7). I push my fingers into my eeeyyyyeeees.
Prefer your parties a little more unhinged? Liverpool’s ASYLUM is the venue for you. The dancefloor will be packed with live actors, entertainment and music across all its levels, and there’s even a ball pit.
London students can also get in on the action with a Halloween boat party! For £27.50 a ticket, the ‘Twisted Circus’ offers a double-decker cruise down the Thames with a fully stocked bar and creepy tunes.
Best fright nights for students
Like the idea of being chased around by actors in terrifying outfits who are being paid to bring you close to a heart attack? Fright nights are just the thing! And oh boy, there are loads of them on offer this year.
Alton Towers are running the ever-popular Scarefest until the 3rd of November, where you can take on scare mazes, enjoy live entertainment and even ride in the dark. If you’re a student in Stoke this is right on your doorstep, so good luck. Day passes start from £37.
Thorpe Park does a fright night too, just so you can’t accuse us of being theme park biased. They claim it’s ‘Europe’s top theme park Halloween scare event,’ and prices start at £36. So, head over to Surrey to scare yourself silly.
If you’d prefer a spooktacular night out without the distraction of rides, jump in your housemate’s car and head to the infamous farm in Lancashire. There you’ll find Farmaggedon, a series of scare mazes to discover. Tickets from £35.
For a fright that doesn’t involve anyone pretending to slice you up, you could try one of Adventure Cinema’s outdoor Halloween screenings (tickets around £18.50). They run events across the UK. Simply enter your postcode on their site to find your nearest venue.
Other Halloween activities for students
Some places are historically spooky, and York definitely ticks that box. The twisty, turny, momentous city lends itself to this time of year, and in York Dungeons you’ll find fabulous actors who’re ready to put you through your paces. P.S it’s said that the building might actually be haunted, which always helps. Tickets from £22.
For a more magical Halloween experience, head to Glasgow for the very imaginatively named GlasGlow (£26 a ticket). This event turns the Botanic Gardens into a trick or treat spectacular, offering a perfectly cosy and only a tiny bit scary outdoors experience. Don’t worry - they’re providing an alternative route around for anyone looking to avoid the worryingly-titled ‘Clowntown’.
Speaking of routes, students in Sheffield can take part in a city-wide zombie apocalypse. There are nine venues on the bar crawl route in total, but only zombies with advanced tickets (£3+) are allowed in.
Avoid getting spooked by your bills this year
Halloween is meant to be scary, but your student bills aren’t. When unearthing your next student home, just remember that all utilities are included in the rent price as standard on UniHomes, meaning no unexpected surprises are lurking around.
