The best student nights out in Oxford

Ooh check you out, studying in Oxford. It’s one of the most highly respected university cities in the country, maybe even the world, but is it all just cobbled streets and University Challenge appearances, or is there one hell of a party waiting just around the corner?

We’ve rounded up the best student hotspots in Oxford for you to have a great night out, featuring cosy pubs, bouncing clubs and everything in between.

-

The Turf Tavern

Let’s start with a little bit of a legend. The Turf Tavern is one of the oldest pubs in the city, and sits against one of the ruins of Oxford’s medieval walls. It’s been serving academics, poets, politicians and artists since the 12th Century, and now provides great pub grub and even greater pints to modern-day students. If you like a pub with a snug atmosphere and incredibly thick walls, you’re going to love it here. You can’t say you’ve studied in Oxford without saying you’ve had a pint in The Turf.

-

The Cricketers Arms

Pool? Tick. Darts? Tick. A huge selection of real ales, pub food, live sports and summer BBQs? Tick, tick and tick again. The Cricketers Arms is a lovely mix of everything that makes a pub good, offering a perfect place for a few drinks with your mates or a bite to eat before a big night out. As you might have guessed from the name, the pub’s history is strongly linked with cricket, but the men in their whites have long since gone and been replaced by a very welcoming beer garden.

-

The Bridge

A massively popular nightclub, The Bridge, handily located on Bridge Street, has a little something for everyone. There are five distinctive zones throughout the venue, each one offering a different vibe and a different soundtrack. You’ll have plenty of time to try out each of them with loads of student deals running throughout the week, helping your student loan stretch further without cutting your night short. It’s very good of them.

-

The Half Moon

If you’re looking for some live music, The Half Moon has the lot. Jazz, folk, rock and indie artists all take to the stage here, backed by a bar heaving with real ale and local beers. It’s a super welcoming pub, ideal for showing off Oxford when the parents visit, or drinking until 2am after they’re gone.

-

The Varsity Club

Don’t know your way around your new home yet? You need a trip to The Varsity Club, whose rooftop bar offers 360 views across the city. You can bag a bargain there too, with 2 for £12 cocktails on the bar between 4pm-7pm, Monday to Friday. This is one of those venues that works just as well for a casual drink after lectures, as it does for another incredible night out. We think you’re gonna spend a lot of time admiring that view.

-

The Four Candles

Now we don’t really need to do Wetherspoons’ marketing for them, but The Four Candles is definitely worth a mention. You know the drill with a Spoons - weird carpets, a four-mile walk to the toilets and pretty cheap drinks. You can’t go wrong.

-

Make yourself at home in Oxford

Now you’re feeling thirsty, you’re going to need a place to get ready. We work with some of the best student estate agents the city has to offer, and showcase a huge selection of Oxford properties to choose from. Whether you’re after a modern flat or a 6-bed houseshare, we'll help your journey to find what you’re looking for. First pint’s on you, right?

Alcohol products are for ages 18+ only. UniHomes promotes responsible drinking. Non-alcohol products are available at each venue.
