From freshers to third year, money can become an issue at uni. Check out these money saving tips to help you throughout university💸


Freshers week

Avoid extravagant spending during freshers week so you can stretch your first loan payment further into the term. It's easy to spend large amounts during the first few weeks, so always predrink rather than spending money at bars, and get on the guest lists for clubs to avoid entrance fees. It doesn’t sound like much, but over the course of freshers week this can soon add up.


Share food

Food shopping can be expensive on your own. If your house sharing, which you most likely will be, look to budget as a group and cook together. You will save so much money and often have enough food to last.


Student discount

Student discount is available on just about everything (seriously, it's great 💸). Look out for big discounts from your favourite restaurant chains, and some of the most recognised clothes stores also offer great promotions for students. There are discounts at cinemas, bars and clubs too, so keep your eyes peeled.


Save money on travel

Travelling can become a massive expense at university. Going home at weekends or going to see friends in different cities all adds up. Car share whenever you can, as it’s a great way to save money and split the cost. Or, if traveling by train, get a 16-25 railcard.


Sell unwanted items

You'll probably gather lots of junk while at university. Rather than binning it all, look to sell your old textbooks, clothes and online. Apps like Vinted and Depop are great! You’d be surprised how much money you can make if you sell things you don't need anymore.

Look out for apps and websites committed to student savings. You can often find discount codes and deals on the daily, not to mention free deals on fast food. It's deffo worth looking into if you have a spare five minutes.


Get a side hustle

Find a way to earn extra cash while studying to make the most of your money. You don't have to get a part-time job to make some extra cash, but look out for online surveys for market research or focus groups which you can often get paid for. You could even earn vouchers for some of your favourite shops. Deffo a nice bonus while you’re studying.
