About the author: My name is Lucie Waring, I'm 20 years old and a 3rd year BA Digital Media and Society student at the University of Sheffield, though I'm currently on a placement year. I am originally from York, but I'm now going into my third year living in Sheffield – so I'm therefore now a self-proclaimed expert on Sheffield student life, from the best coffee shops and parks to the nightlife. While at university I am a member of many societies that I love to attend with friends and partake in fun social events!
Whether you're a university fresher exploring the city to send home postcards and pics to your relatives, or you're a final year student questioning your degree and deciding that becoming a social media influencer is your best bet at making the big bucks – the city of Sheffield is filled with culture and picture-perfect destinations.
There are photo opportunities round every corner in the Steel City (so you can take perfect Instagram photos to truly introduce your city to your followers and curate the ultimate Instagram aesthetic feed), but here are 10 of my favourites:
Firth Court Building – University of Sheffield
Predominantly used for the Biomedical Department at the University of Sheffield, the exterior of this impressive building delivers gorgeous greenery and architectural design which is a picture-perfect backdrop for graduating Uni Of students in their cap and gown.
Cambridge Street Collective
Food bloggers rejoice; Cambridge Street Collective food hall, one of Sheffield's most recent additions, provides foodies and feasters various options and vendors to choose from. From impressive craft drinks to carefully cooked burgers, your camera will be eating before you at this indoor food market.
Vulgar – Division Street
This vibrant vintage store, influenced by 90s and early 2000s flair, offers designs and decor guaranteed to draw in Division Street wanderers, enticed by their museum of original pieces and psychedelic colours. With flashy and unique couture, Vulgar offers Instagram-worthy outfits whilst being an Instagram photo op in itself.
Corporation Night Club
Whether you ventured to Corporation in Freshers' Week and have yet to return or are an avid Corp Monday attendee, it is almost impossible to escape the premises without capturing a picture in front of their infamous radiant graphic walls. With neon colours and patterns sure to make your head dizzy, the recognisable wall will make sure all your Instagram followers know why you weren’t in your Tuesday 9am.

Stanage Edge – Peak District
We can’t talk about picturesque photo opportunities without mentioning Sheffield’s own Peak District, and one of my favourite locations here is the Stanage Edge viewpoint. After trekking up the steep incline to the top of the rocks, you eventually reach a vast view overlooking the forests and fields of the Peak District. These are views that seriously put life into perspective.
Weston Park
One of Sheffield’s greenest landscapes, Weston Park, is the perfect place to capture aesthetic nature shots of wildlife in action, a direct visual viewpoint of some of the University of Sheffield’s grand buildings, or even just sunbathing selfies in the park.

Nam Song
Located in Broomhill, this Vietnamese restaurant and coffee shop serves up specialty dishes and drinks to feed your camera – and it's all delivered inside an authentically decorated interior of lanterns, lighting, and wallpapers offering tranquility to sustain your eyes.

Sheffield Botanical Gardens
Another wildlife retreat in Sheffield, the Botanical Gardens just off of Ecclesall Road, has collections of plants and species you won’t find elsewhere in the city. With various opportunities to photograph the beautifully blooming gardens, your Instagram page will have your followers wondering what exotic and delicate landscapes you have been visiting.
Sheffield Cathedral
History students in need of an Instagram photo to show their friends from home all the culture and architectural heritage their new university city has to offer? Sheffield Cathedral is the perfect location to get out your camera lenses and hope to perfect the angles of this remarkable historical site in Sheffield city centre.
ROAR Wednesdays
The iconic Wednesday night sports social destination is always a crowd pleaser at the University of Sheffield’s student union and domain. With flashing lights, neon signs, and even a photo booth inside, you are bound to leave with photographic documentation of your night. However, the main photo opportunity here every week is getting a picture with the infamous mascot, Roary McTaverstock, whilst in the queue for the party!
