The name ‘Freshers Fair’ might sound a bit naff, but trust us - this is one Freshers event you definitely don’t want to miss. From fantastic freebies to food stalls, you can guarantee that your university’s Fair will have it all…

This event isn’t just for freshers either - it’s a must-attend for all university students, whether in your first year or a returning student. If you’re not convinced, we’ve compiled 5 reasons why attending your Freshers Fair should be your top priority.

For more information on the all-important Freshers Week, check out our blog, ‘Freshers' Week: Everything You Need to Know’.

1. Get the lowdown on university societies, clubs and sports teams

Universities have sports clubs and societies centred around nearly every possible topic, from chess to cycling. So, you’re guaranteed to find an activity that matches your interests. Freshers Fairs are the perfect place to get the lowdown on all that your uni has to offer.

Most clubs and societies will run free taster sessions, which you can sign up for at the fair. This is the best way to try a new sport or join a society, plus it’s a great way to meet new people and make new friends!

2. Make the most of the best Freshers Fair freebies

Freshers Fairs are famous for their fantastic freebies, so you should definitely take advantage. From big brands to local businesses, there’ll be a tonne of stalls offering enticing goodies and promotional products, tasty treats and discount vouchers. Imagine promotional items like colourful water bottles, and branded bottle openers. Grab all the free stuff you can carry or fit in your complimentary tote bag!

There’ll often be a lot of stationery on offer, so make sure you get stocked up and hopefully, you’ll have enough pens, highlighters, and notebooks to carry you through the academic year.

3. Chat with new people

Attending your Freshers Fair can be a fab way to mingle and meet people outside your social circle. If you’re a first-year, you might only know the people you live with - this is a fantastic opportunity to meet people with similar interests, whether that be video gaming or creative writing.

4. Feast on delicious food and drink

From big chains to local food stalls, there’ll be a tonne of food and drink on offer. Think free slices of Domino's or Pizza Hut and street food from around the world - delicious! Complete the day with a couple of drinks at your Student Union with your new-found friends.

5. Get a head start on finding your perfect accommodation for next year

As well as clubs, societies, food and drink stalls, and local businesses, there’ll also be local letting agents and student accommodation providers in attendance at the Housing Fairs. Although this might not sound as fun as free pizza, it’s a great way to get a head start on finding your student home for the next academic year.

Keep an eye out for UniHomes at your university’s Freshers Fair this September - our team will be on hand with advice for finding the best student accommodation, how our all-inclusive accommodation works, and, of course, some fabulous freebies!

We’ll be at the following Freshers Fairs this year:
