The Best Student Nights Out in Bournemouth
16 May 2025 • 4 min read
When you think of studying in Bournemouth, you might imagine morning walks along the coast, rounders on the beach, sunset swims, or all the fun and games you could imagine at the seaside. And you’ll absolutely get all of that, but you’ll also get a few unforgettable nights out at a great range of bars and clubs, making Bournemouth a uni town with plenty for everyone.
Stick on your swimwear and dive into our roundup of the best student nights out Bournemouth has to offer.
The Vault
You’ll notice from the first couple of clubs on this list that the people of Bournemouth love naming a venue after what it used to be. Case in point: The Vault. This refurbished bank vault now blasts out drum and bass, jungle and garage tunes on the regular, as well as offering indie nights, touring DJs and Messy Mondays - a student night that does exactly what it says on the tin. The first 100 people get in free, and once you’re inside, it’s £2 for a double vodka, £2 for a VK, or £1.50 for a shot. That sounds loads more fun than a bank to us.
The Old Fire Station
Guess what this venue used to be? This historic building is now a staple of Bournemouth’s student nightlife, with three rooms offering music to tantalise anyone’s ears. Throughout the week you’ll find touring DJs, amazing live bands and big beats, but on Fridays is where this old site really comes to life for students. Lollipop is the longest-running student night in the town, with a menu packed with unbelievable drinks deals designed to set your weekend on fire… probably.
While The Old Fire Station is officially the Bournemouth Uni nightclub, it also hosts loads of events open to the public, so non-BUers are welcome too.
Cameo
Cameo is a club offering a little bit of everything, namely bingo, birthday party hire, stag and hen dos and, in our humble opinion, one of the nest-named student nights on this list. Fishies calls itself the ‘ultimate Wednesday student night experience’, and who are we to disagree? The fishy fun kicks off at 10:30 and doesn’t stop until 4am, with five rooms of fun and different music to enjoy.
Camel Bar
Fancy partying until 6am? Get yourself down to Camel! This bar has been designed to look like an Egyptian cave, which we love, and while the other venues around town will be tidying up and heading home, Camel will still be going large. You’ve got to last until close at least once during your degree, right?
Zephyr
If your idea of a good night out is more pool tables and head banging, Zephyr is the place for you. This rock bar is packed with real ales and long hair, and is open until 5am on weekends to give you plenty of time to mosh the night away. It’s always a great vibe at Zephyr, and the themed nights mean you’ll always be able to find a tune to sing along to.
The O2 Academy
The O2 plays host to some of the biggest acts in the country, but also provides some banging drum and bass nights if that’s more of your scene. One of the biggest venues in the town, its line-up also includes Bongo’s Bingo and, at the time of writing, a Martin Kemp clubnight. Consider us interested.
Poole is just a bus away
For more nightlife options, you’re only a short bus, taxi or lift from a generous friend away from Poole. This neighbouring coastal town is brilliant for a day out of any type, but after sunset you’ll also find a range of great pubs, places to eat and venues to let your hair down. The Drift Micro bar is small in size, but huge in its range of cocktails and beers, while The Foundry Arms is a fantastic classic boozer. If you’re feeling hungry, head to Cliff Poole for some top pub grub. Basically, you can’t study in Bournemouth without a good night out in Poole.
