What to Expect From Your First Cardiff Depot in the Castle Festival

If you’re spending your summer in Cardiff or are planning on visiting, make sure Depot in the Castle is on your bucket list. Every year, Cardiff Castle transforms into a festival full of “live music, street food and entertainment” right in the heart of the city.

So, mark Saturday 25th July 2026 in your calendar because you won’t want to miss headliners like The Wombats, Sugababes and so many more! Especially if you’re a student, it’s the perfect day out with housemates.

When is Depot in the Castle? 📅

Depot in the Castle is making its comeback on Saturday 25th July 2026, making it the perfect way to unwind after uni (whether you've graduated or just finished for the summer).

Where is Depot in the Castle? 🏰

Like the name suggests, Depot in the Castle takes place in the grounds of Cardiff Castle. Located right in the city centre (and not too far from Cathays), Cardiff Castle is one of the easiest festival locations to get to if you live in a Cardiff student house, are nearby or are even visiting for the day via public transport.

Cardiff is a walkable city but there’s two train stations (Cardiff Central and Cardiff Queen Street) which are both less than a 10-minute walk away, with plenty of bus routes in the area, too.

How does ticketing work? 🎫

Tickets are available through the DEPOT website but, like most popular music events, tickets are going fast! Prices start from £56.65 each for adults, and it’s worth booking early to avoid missing out on one of the exciting events of the year.

There are so many exciting artists playing this July 25th. Make sure to check out their music before attending so you can sing and dance all day with friends.

What’s the atmosphere like? 🎉

Depot in the Castle attracts everyone, whether you’re a student or a family looking for a fun day out. Throughout the day, the castle grounds are filled with live music, food vendors and bars, creating a lively atmosphere from the moment the gates open.

The castle backdrop also makes for some great photos, so don’t be surprised if your social media feeds are full of Depot content the next day.

What are the food and drink options like? 🍩

There are plenty of food traders and bars on-site, offering everything from street food favourites to festival snacks like Dough and Co.

However, if you’re trying to save money, it might be worth eating beforehand and setting yourself a budget for the day.

What should you bring to Depot in the Castle? ✅

• Ticket: no ticket, no entry!
• Valid ID: if you’re planning on buying alcohol, it might be worth keeping this with you.
• Portable charger: you’re going to be using your phone to record videos, take pictures with friends and to probably use Apple Pay!
• Waterproof jacket: it might be the summer time, but it’s Cardiff. With the rain practically being 24/7, you don’t want to be miserable. Bringing an umbrella is a good idea too but be warned of the wind.
• Comfortable shoes: make sure to wear comfortable shoes like trainers, since you’ll be up on your feet all day.

Student top tips 💡

Arrive early

Getting there early means shorter queues, more time to explore and a better chance of getting a good spot for your favourite acts.

However, the downside is the long wait before the doors open. So make sure you’re wearing comfortable shoes with your portable charger.

Dress for the weather

It may be July, but this is still Cardiff. Bring sunglasses and an umbrella!

Bring a portable charger

You’ll be taking photos, filming videos and trying to find your friends all day. A portable charger can be a lifesaver. Remember to charge it before you go!

Plan your journey home

When the final act finishes, thousands of people leave at the same time. Make sure you know how you’re getting home before the night ends, whether that’s via one of the train stations, bus or walking home.

Absolutely.

For students staying in Cardiff over the summer, Depot in the Castle offers a festival experience without the travel, camping or huge costs that often come with larger events.
