About the author: My name is George Okonkwo, and I am a Broadcast Journalist student at Nottingham Trent University. I have a passion for journalistic and literary writing and research. I also love reading, binge watching TV shows, singing with my terrible voice, and going for walks alone or with friends.
There are some things that just hit different when you're a student at Nottingham Trent University. Whether it's the fashion-forward campus or the dangerously addictive food spots just a stone’s throw away from lectures, NTU life comes with its own unique brand of chaos, comfort, and low-level caffeine dependency.
If you're thinking about joining the NTU fam (or if you're already in deep), here's a roundup of the ten best things about being a Nottingham Trent student.

1. The City Campus is basically a Pinterest board
Let’s start with the obvious – Nottingham Trent’s City Campus looks like it was made for the grid. With its sleek glass buildings, pretty courtyards, and modern study spaces, it’s basically giving "I’m a student but I also have my life together" vibes. Bonus: it’s right in the middle of the city centre, so you're never more than five minutes from caffeine, carbs or chaos.
2. You’re technically studying in a castle
Yes, you read that right. NTU’s Brackenhurst Campus looks like Hogwarts but with more tote bags and oat milk. If you study Animal, Environmental or Rural Sciences, you’re basically living the countryside aesthetic dream – with castle backdrops and cows for neighbours.
3. Boots Library = home
The Boots Library is where productivity either flourishes… or absolutely falls apart. There are quiet study zones, group spaces, bean bags (for napping/studying), and a vibe that says, “I’ve definitely got this assignment under control.” Plus, the top-floor views of the city? Elite. Don't get me started on the roof garden.
4. Everything is walkable (and flat!)
Unlike some uni cities where getting to class feels like you’re hiking Everest, Nottingham is delightfully flat. Whether you're racing to campus or popping into town for snacks, everything is walkable – and your legs will thank you for it.
5. Ocean Wednesdays are... a lifestyle
You don’t just go to Ocean. You experience it. Ocean Wednesdays are a rite of passage for NTU students. Fancy dress, cheesy music, and zero shame – it’s chaotic, it’s sweaty, it’s iconic. And no matter how hard you try, that rubbery floor will haunt your dreams forever.
6. The societies are unhinged (in the best way)
From Beyoncé Society to Quidditch Club, NTU has some very specific societies that make meeting people way less awkward. Whether you’re into K-pop, rock climbing, baking or even just lying on the floor (hi, Meditation Society), there’s a group of people for you.
7. The city is made for students
Notts is a proper student city. With two unis, endless student discounts, late-night food spots (Dixy Chicken deserves a Michelin star after 2am), and entire nights built around £1 shots – it's a dream for broke-but-thriving students.
8. The fashion game is strong
You haven’t seen outfits until you’ve had a 9am lecture in the Newton Building. From art students serving runway looks to the sportswear girlies repping gym-core, NTU knows how to dress. And honestly, it makes every lecture feel like London Fashion Week.
9. Support services that actually… help
From mental health support to study advice and financial guidance, NTU’s support system is surprisingly solid. They’ve got wellbeing teams, career support, and even free printing (if you know where to look).
10. The vibes are immaculate
NTU students are a mixed bag in the best way: creative, loud, stylish, chaotic, and deeply into their niche interests. Whether you're the kind to join ten societies or just vibe in the SU with a hot chocolate, there’s space for everyone – and that’s what makes it special.
