About the author: Hi! My name is Tamara Greatrix, but I usually go by Tam, and I’m a 3rd year BA English Literature student at the University of Birmingham. I am currently the Print & Features and Culture Editor for Redbrick Newspaper and writer for The Tab. In my spare time, I ride horses and love visiting the theatre.

Whether we like to admit it or not, we all love a good Instagram picture. With summer evenings just around the corner, there is no better time to explore the most Instagrammable spots Birmingham has to offer.

University of Birmingham campus

If you don’t feel like travelling, or you’re short on time thanks to those looming final deadlines, there’s plenty of beauty to be found right on campus. The University of Birmingham (sandwiched between Selly Oak and Edgbaston) is home to iconic landmarks like Joseph Chamberlain Memorial Clock Tower (affectionately known as Old Joe), the tallest freestanding clock tower in the world.

Nearby, the Green Heart offers the perfect spot to relax, soak up the sun and snap a few aesthetic shots in between seminars. It is no surprise the campus has been ranked among the Telegraph’s top ten most beautiful campuses in Britain.

Cannon Hill Park

Cannon Hill is a firm favourite among UoB students, and it’s easy to see why. The park is packed with scenic spots and activities and it’s the perfect place to get some wholesome pics with your mates that you’ll cherish long after graduation!

There’s plenty to get involved in: from swan boat rides on the lake to mini golf, walking trails, and even a ride on the land train. The funfair is also great fun and is perfect for adding a pop of colour to your feed!

The formal gardens and woodland are particularly picturesque as summer approaches. And, for the early risers, the weekly 5km parkrun is hosted every Saturday at 9am, a great chance to grab a post-run pic.

Kitty Café

Located in the Bullring in the city centre, the Kitty Café is perfect for anyone missing their furry friends while away at uni. Not only is the space itself beautifully designed, but it also gives you the chance to snap some adorable pics with the resident rescue cats.

Brindley Place

Most people head straight to Broad Street on a night out and completely miss the charm of Brindley Place. Just a short walk from New Street Station, this canal-side hotspot is lined with bars, restaurants, and cafés, all with scenic waterfront views. Think fairy lights and cherry blossom trees – the perfect golden hour backdrop.

Whether you visit during the day or at night, there is no shortage of photo opportunities. Head to bars like Pitcher and Piano and The Alchemist for moody lighting and artsy interiors and don’t miss the fountains and water feature just a few second walk away. Music fans can also stop by the Black Sabbath Bridge for an iconic photo spot.

Digbeth

Digbeth is one of Brum's most vibrant and creative neighbourhoods, known for its street art and buzzing atmosphere. With bold murals, fairy lights strung beneath railway arches, and industrial backdrops, there is a photo opportunity literally around every corner. Although it feels tucked away, Digbeth is less than a 20-minute walk from New Street Station, making it an easy addition to a day out in the city.

The Custard Factory on Gibb Street is at the heart of the Digbeth, a hub of independent shops, bars and creative spaces. If you’re looking for something a bit more interactive, Ghetto Golf offers a quirky indoor mini-golf experience, complete with photogenic décor and cocktails!

For a hidden gem, head to The Rainbow; this pub and live music venue has a surprisingly aesthetic smoking area, with ambient lighting and unique décor. Our other Birmingham Content Ambassador Ash has written more about The Rainbow in her post about the best live music venues in Birmingham, so give that a read for a closer look at The Rainbow and everything it has to offer.

Malvern Hills

While not technically in Birmingham, Malvern Hills is well worth the trip, and I just had to include it in this list. Just over an hour’s drive from campus, it offers a peaceful escape from daily campus life, with stunning views and endless photo opportunities.

Grab your friend group and hike to the top of the hills for some panoramic shots. Or, if that’s not your thing, head to the elegant gardens of Witley Court and Gardens and soak in the fountain and manicured gardens.

From Digbeth’s colourful street art to Brindley Place’s canal-side views, Birmingham is full of aesthetic spots. Whether you’re taking a break between lectures, or planning a summer day out with friends, these gems are guaranteed to elevate your Insta feed.
