About the author: Hi, I’m Emily Bath! I’m in my final year at Leeds Beckett University studying Media, Communication, and Cultures. I’m definitely a homebody at heart and love getting lost in a good book, but I also enjoy heading out for a hike, catching up with friends, or discovering new playlists to keep me motivated while working.
Love is officially in the air this Valentine’s Day 2026, and if you’re a student in Leeds, you’re in the right city. Whether you’re planning something cute with your partner, organising a Galentine’s Day with your housemates, or just treating yourself (because self-love counts), Leeds has plenty of ways to celebrate without blowing your budget. Valentine’s falls on a weekend this year, too, making it the perfect excuse to actually enjoy your time off from university.
Sweet, low-key plans
If you’re after something wholesome and relaxed, Millennium Square in the city centre is a great place to start. The Carriageworks Theatre is hosting a Valentine’s charity craft market with around 60 stallholders and free entry, ideal for picking up a thoughtful gift without the last-minute panic.
You could also wander through Leeds Market and grab a bouquet. Their flowers are genuinely beautiful, affordable, and way more thoughtful than last-minute supermarket roses.
Arcade dates and nostalgia wins
For a Valentine’s that’s actually fun, NQ64 is hard to beat. This arcade bar goes all out on décor and delivers serious student discounts, including 50% off. You can grab tokens and play everything from dance machines and basketball hoops to classics like Mario Kart, Pac-Man, and King Kong, plus consoles from almost every generation. Add their Instagram-worthy cocktails, and you’ve got a date (or group night out) that never misses – and for more aesthetic photo ops, check out Jarisse’s post on the 10 most Instagrammable spots in Leeds.

Cinema, but make it romantic
Hyde Park Picture House is showing a Valentine’s special of The Princess Bride (a nostalgic, feel-good classic) this Valentine's Day and, best of all, it’s pay what you can! If you’re more into new releases, Leeds has loads of options, including Vue, Cineworld, Odeon, and Everyman, whether you’re keeping it budget-friendly or going all out on comfy seats.
Cute coffee dates (day or night)
For daytime Valentine’s plans, Leeds’ coffee scene never misses. Fan favourites like Blank Street and Black Sheep Coffee are always solid, especially with their student discounts. But Valentine’s is also the perfect excuse to explore some hidden gems…
Wren Bakery is a must-visit, not just for the amazing bakes but because it supports disadvantaged women across Leeds. Kapow Coffee is another great shout, and if the weather does its usual thing, Fika North Coffee in Headingley is the perfect cosy escape with mouth-watering baked goods.
If you want to take your coffee date into the evening, Vinyl Grounds is a standout; it’s a coffee and wine bar centred around vinyl records that feels very Leeds and very cool. And if you’re an animal lover, you honestly can’t go wrong with booking the cat café – coffee, cats, and instant serotonin.
Gigs and live music
The Hyde Park Book Club always has events going on, and Valentine’s is no exception. Across the weekend, they’re hosting live music ranging from experimental jazz to cosmic, genre-bending sets, perfect if you and your Valentine (or friends) love discovering new artists and supporting local venues.

Fun, competitive, and slightly chaotic
Leeds is ideal if you want Valentine’s Day plans that feel fun rather than overly serious. Junkyard Golf is perfect if you’re feeling competitive (or just want an excuse to show off your skills), while Roxy Ballroom offers bowling, shuffleboard, darts, batting cages, karaoke, and more. Escape Hunt is another great shout. Nothing bonds people like being locked in a room together for an escape room.
Bottomless brunch is always a Galentine’s classic, and for chilled food and drinks, Belgrave Music Hall, Green Room, and the Canary Bar at Leeds Dock are solid student-approved choices. Around the 13th and the 14th, Leeds Dock sometimes offers love locks – write the name of that special someone and secure it on Leeds Dock Bridge to create your own love lock moment, just like the iconic bridge in Paris. End the night with a water taxi ride along the dock for the perfect finishing touch.
Valentine’s Day in Leeds doesn’t have to be expensive or over-planned. Whether you’re gaming, gig-going, coffee-sipping, or just exploring the city with people you love, Leeds makes it easy to celebrate your way, exactly how student life should be.
